, serious snow expected there in the next several days. look at the west coast and seattle, the snow levels have been down as low as 200 feet. they will go up to 400 feet for the afternoon. some of these snowfall totals, very substantial going into the next several days. could see 10 or 20 inches of snowfall. but in the midwest, this is what we'll focus on. we haven't seen a significant snow event like this. this one occurs as we go into wednesday and then for thursday, so you're traveling into chicago or des moines or topeka, wichita and even into denver. you could expect perhaps some delays later on in the workweek. how about 48-hour snowfall totals? spokane just under 5 inches being reported there. in libby, montana, two-day snow totals just about 2 feet. and newtown, connecticut, right now overcast with rain. the temperature a cold rain. 41 degrees. the winds are out of the east and northeast but as we go into the next five days, we'll look at a little bit of a break weatherwise. those temperatures will remain in the 40s but then as we go into friday, the rain is going to return and a 2
francisco and seattle with rain. by monday, the west coast clears out. but here's the little interesting nugget that could happen. on monday, watch what happens here in the gulf. moisture comes up from the gulf, an area of low pressure develops. this is the deep south. birmingham to new orleans to atlanta, could be a wet christmas. rain, not a white one. then we could see this area of low pressure develop, and it's from tuesday to thursday in the mid-atlantic and northeast, we could be looking at another storm. we'll have to keep our eyes on that model. forecast, though, for today, pretty blustery. watching us from the northeast, new york city could see a few snow showers coming down. but the winds are pretty strong. so it's pretty chilly. so some snow in western great lakes. of course, we're seeing that, the lake-effect snow guns firing off. another wet day on the west coast, randi, from seattle to san francisco. another tough travel day there. but this is the end of the line. things begin to clear out. the balance of the country is cold and driempt ay. and the eastern section is windy.

's a big trip. we went to seattle and we went to disneyland, which was most important. we traveled to kansas where my grandmother's family was from and went to chicago and went to yellowstone. and we took greyhound buses most of the time and we rented cars and we would stay at local motels or howard johnson's. and if there was a pool at one of these motels, even if it was just tiny, i would be very excited and the ice machine was exciting and the vending machine. i was really excited about that. but this is, at a time when you didn't have 600 stations and 24 hours worth of cartoons and so at night if the tv was on, it was what your parents decided to watch and my mother that summer would turn on the tv every night during this vacation and watch the watergate hearings. and i can't say that i understood everything that was being discussed but i knew the issues were important. i knew they spoke to some basic way about who we were and who we might be as americans. so slowly, during the course of this trip, which lasted about a month, some of this seeped into my head and the person who
